Jayda's out of surgery...

I just spoke with Dr. Novy and the surgery was a lot more involved than he thought it was going to be, but he says he's very proud and happy about what they were able to do... Because the break is probably three weeks old, the ends of the bone had calcified, the leg tendons had contracted and adhesions had formed around the kneecap as she kept it tucked up... All of this had to be undone basically...

But he feels it is put back together good and tight...

She's coming up now from the anesthesia and has the shakes as normal... Jayda will stay overnight at the hospital and I'm to call tomorrow at 10AM and see when she'll be able to come home...

She will have a long incision underneath that light bandages and Dr. Novy said it will be cumbersome for her try and get around on it for the next two, three months... Once he sees her progress, we may have to go in later and using anesthesia, break those adhesions that have formed around the kneecap...

But in the meantime? Jayda is doing well, getting pain meds for comfort, and she'll be on stepped-up calcium and vitamin D to help the ends of the bone knit together as I start trying to wean those pups off of her...

I'm emotionally exhausted and it will be a long night... Her puppies are not hungry enough to cooperate with bottle feeding yet, so we'll see... But at least for today, we know we've done our very best so one day Jayda will be able to walk and maybe even run on all four legs again!
